Welcome to FS2!
Welcome to our class page!
We are a class that really enjoy learning through play. We have a great classroom with lots of fun resources to help us learn. Our Foundation Stage team carefully plan teaching and learning to take account of children’s individual needs.
We have lots of adults in FS2 that help us with our learning;
Mrs Bloor, Mrs Sheldon, Mrs Venters and Miss Saddique
We will encourage your child to be involved in a variety of learning experiences during each day. Some of these will be whole class experiences, some will be in small group situations and sometimes your child will work independently. Teaching and learning in the Early Years Foundation stage is based on PLAY and TALK. There will be a balance of teacher led and child initiated activities. Every day your child will have a focussed Phonics, Literacy and Maths activity.
Spring in FS2
The children have come back after Christmas eager to learn and full of enthusiasm. We have started with our enquiry question;
'Where in the world is Sherwood Forest?'
We had a letter from Boris the Bear who had heard how kind and eager to learn our children are. It just so happened he came from Sherwood Forest, just near the Major Oak and the children have taken their learning from there.
Boris has been lost around school which lead to reading descriptions aloud to other classes and staff around school and writing our very own missing posters. we lured him out with homemade honey sandwiches and he was found hibernating in a very comfy looking basket in the PE store!
He's a bear who loves adventures.
He is now eager to meet all of the children and is starting on his journey of 30 sleepovers, one night with everyone in the class.
The children have really engaged with our enquiry and we will take the children's interests and enthusiasm to move their learning forward.
We will keep you posted!
This Spring we are also excited that a new area has opened up in our continuous provision. Our new woodwork area has got all the children very excited and they couldn't wait to try out the tools.
We had a really good talk about how to stay safe and have made a set of rules of how to play in the area.
The children are allowed to use some of the tools independently but will work with adults with others. We will gradually introduce new tools and skills.
They are having so much fun!
Chinese New Year
On Friday 24th January both children in FS1 and FS2 enjoyed finding out about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated around the world. The children learnt about family traditions and tried lots of activities. They made their own Chinese number lines, tried writing some Chinese letters and symbols and were challenged to make their own 'Hong Bao' or red envelope with money inside, that is given to children during Chinese New Year.
The children were also very lucky as we had a video message all the way from Jun Jun in China. She is the Aunty of one of our children and taught the children how to say, 'Happy New Year' in Chinese and showed them an authentic Hong Bao.
We had a very busy and exciting day!
