Home Learning Information 2020

Hello Year 5,

As expected, we knew that school closing was a possibility, I will miss working with each and every one of you in class!

At school, we have had many discussions about the importance of education and how all of you need to take charge of your own learning.

School have taken the opportunity to subscribe to many online learning programmes that will support you during this time period – we have discussed these all in class.
Purple mash, Times Table Rock Stars, Reading Theory and Spelling and Maths Shed logins has been provided to each of you, if you’re having trouble logging in to any programmes – please contact me on:
ajumbu@haddon.notts.sch.uk

However, please ensure you are typing in your usernames and passwords correctly, leaving no spaces and checking for lower/upper case words.

On Purple Mash, you can also keep me updated on the sharing blog. You can do this by logging in to purple mash > select ‘Sharing’ (green Earth logo) > select the tab ‘Shared Blogs’ > select Year 5 Snow Monkeys > select the green plus sign in the top right corner to add a post. You can post photos, videos of what you are doing on there, alongside any questions you may have regarding work – maintaining communication is key during these times, so please take the time to post on the blog if you can.

As discussed, children must complete these tasks throughout the working week (Mon-Fri):

Reading theory20 minutes per day.

Spelling/ Maths shed20 minutes per day.

Times Table Rock Stars20 minutes per day.

Reading your book banded book OR free reader at home. Some book banded books are available on https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/20 minutes per day.

Fast Learning; children have to write out spellings using the Y5/6 spelling list provided. If you have lost the spelling list, you will find it on: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/239784/English_Appendix_1_-_Spelling.pdf on page 23 – At least 4x per week.

All children are expected to check their ‘2do’s’ on Purple Mash daily, there will be a deadline set for each task set (again this will be on Purple Mash). I will be setting tasks on Purple Mash at least 3-4 times per week – and I will be available on line to assist you or answer any queries you may have between 9:30 and 11:30 and 13:30 and 14:30 each working day so please check this.

I will also be uploading on the school website DAILY Maths and English activities that need to be completed in the books provided.

We really want to support your continued education so just like during term time, as long as you are well, we strongly suggest that you complete all the tasks set so you do not miss out or fall behind. As discussed, I can check how you are getting on with each activity and will be ‘marking’ the work and offering feedback.  We will also be able to see when you are logging in and how long you are working for. The expectation is for you to be doing at least 3 hours of work per school day (Mon-Fri) – You can do this!

Remember Year 5, education is one of the greatest gifts we have, and we need to take advantage of all the opportunities provided – ensure to take charge of your own education and learning, we got this Snow Monkeys!!
