Key Information

Hello Year 2,

First of all, I’d just like to thank all of you for your help and support at this time. This is a really challenging time for parents, teachers and most importantly, the children and unity and routine, in what may feel like madness, is one of the best things we can offer them.

In class, we have had many discussions about the importance of school and how to be independent learners.

To help with this, School have taken the opportunity to subscribe to many online learning programmes that will support you during this time period – we have discussed these all in class.
Purple Mash, Times Table Rock Stars and Spelling/ Maths Shed logins are stuck in the front of all three books that have been provided to each of you, and I also have a copy which I can send if necessary. However, please ensure you are typing in your usernames and passwords correctly, leaving no spaces and checking for lower/upper case words.   If you’re having any trouble logging in to any programmes or need any help with Home Learning– please contact me on: kgrafstein@haddon.notts.sch.ukI will be available on line to assist you or answer any queries you may have between 9:30 and 11:30 and 13:30 and 14:30 each working day so don’t hesitate to get in touch should you need help.

Each week I will provide Maths, Reading, Writing and other topic tasks based on learning I know we have covered in class. These tasks will be appropriate for their age and stage and where possible, will build upon learning already covered.

So here is an idea of the kind of things that will be set-

  • Daily Joe Wicks exercise video on his YouTube Channel- PE with Joe or Cosmic Yoga Kids
  • All children are expected to check their ‘2do’s’ on Purple Mash each morning- there will be task set and this is like their register so we can see who is able to log on or not.
  • Reading your book banded book and sharing a story together
  • Some book banded books are available on https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/ – 20 minutes per day.
  • Writing task- Will vary each day and be sent out to you with weekly/daily notice.
  • Maths task- Will vary each day and be sent out to you with weekly/ daily notice.

I will also be sending a list of other ideas for activities to do with them, that link to current learning.

Special class reads will be made available on the class page and through twitter (@mrgrafstein)

We really want to support your continued education so just like during term time, as long as you are well, we strongly suggest that you complete all the tasks set so you do not miss out or fall behind.

As discussed, I can check how you are getting on with each activity and can ‘marking’ the online work as well as offering feedback.  The children can also write messages on Purple Mash about what they thought about the activity or notes for me to read and enjoy!

We will also be able to see when you are logging in. The expectation is for you to try and do at least 3 hours of work per school day (Mon-Fri).

If you take a picture or scan any work completed in the books, then please feel free to send them to me via email and I can try and provide feedback during the contact times.

Thank you for all of your support and let's keep the learning train moving!

Mr Grafstein

There are also online resources for phonics. Phonics play (see username and password below) offered for free by phonics play   https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ The children are familiar with these games and resources and provide a great point to help learning.
