Dream Big, Aim High

Curriculum

Below, our learning is listed in English, Maths and Enquiry.

As always, if you have any questions, please just ask!

English
To begin, we will be continuing with our class read, 'Why the Whales Came' and will be writing a newspaper to describe what happens at the end of the story. I know how much you've been enjoying the book so I can't wait to see your newspaper reports already!

After we've been to Castleton, we'll be writing a recount to recall all the exciting things that happened whilst we were there.

Then, at the end of the enquiry, we'll be collating all our learning about rivers in Geography and answering the question, 'Do we all follow the same journey?'.

Maths
This half term, we will be focusing mostly on fractions and will be applying all our learning of the four operations throughout Y4 so far. Within this topic, we will learn to find equivalent fractions, convert mixed numbers from improper fractions, add and subtract fractions with the same denominator and we will also be finding fractions of amounts. We'll also be continuing with our 'Ten in 10' practise on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays and 'Flashback 4' on Tuesdays and Thursdays to re-activate our Maths learning.

Enquiry
Our enquiry driver this term will be Geography with a focus on rivers, answering the question, 'Do we all have the same journey?'. Within this enquiry, we have already learnt about different parts of the UK, including counties, countries, cities, and human and physical features. Within this term, we'll look closer at the topography of Nottinghamshire and more specifically about rivers in the UK.

Our enquiry enhancers this term are RE, Science and Art where we'll be looking at the journey of life (for different religious groups) in RE, the water cycle in Science and landscapes including water in Art.
