Computing
Safely becoming active participants in the digital world.
At Haddon, we aim to provide a high-quality computing education, using Purple Mash to enhance teaching, that equips children with the skills required to flourish in an ever-changing digital world. Technology will play a pivotal role in children’s lives; therefore, being safe and confident digital users is at the heart of our curriculum. We aim to model and educate our pupils to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. Our computing curriculum focuses on a progression of skills in digital literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully), computer science (programming and understanding how digital systems work), information technology (using computing systems to store, retrieve and send information) and online safety to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding, technology. Where appropriate, we embed computing across the curriculum to make learning creative and accessible. We want our pupils to be fluent with a range of computing tools to be able to express their understanding in a variety of ways.
Aims of the Computing Curriculum:
Our computing curriculum aims for pupils to:
- understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
- analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs to solve such problems
- evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
- be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
