Design and Technology
Designing, making and evaluating for a purpose
At Haddon, we believe that every child has the power to create. We believe that with a well-planned Design and Technology curriculum, we can provide children with plentiful opportunities to embark on their own creative journey. Our curriculum strives to develop our children's confidence, skills and talents to empower them to create authentic, aspirational outcomes.
Further to this, our WEAVE curriculum principles underpin the foundations of our Design & Technology curriculum with the children experiencing the wider world through the planned content, and experiences with designers. Children have a hands-on exploration of tools, existing products and materials, especially around food and baking. Career aspirations are discussed with children, enabling them to see the value of the subject. The Design & Technology curriculum is vocabulary-rich, with topic-specific words supporting them to speak like designers. Opportunities are built in for the children to create products linked to our enquiries.
Aims of the Design & Technology Curriculum:
Our Design & Technology curriculum aims for pupils to:
- view D&T as a creative process: gaining knowledge from existing products, exploring new ideas and using a range of materials
- produce creative work, exploring, recording and documenting their experiences
- evaluate and analyse existing products using creative language and vocabulary
- grow in confidence, develop resilience and become opinion-formers
- know about designers and understand the historical and cultural development of their existing products.
